Building a replica of Faraday's motor

Michael Faraday is still a role model for me. He is the epitome of a citizen scientist, from apprentice bookbinder to celebrated natural scientist. He was also one of the last polymaths who made significant discoveries not only in electrodynamics but also, for example, in organic and electrochemistry. When building the motor, I paid particular attention to aesthetics. I use saturated sodium chloride solution as an electrolyte. But you can also use mercury or Galinstan. For operation, one should absolutely use a laboratory power supply with an adjustable current.

Danke dir Mir macht es Riesenspaß mit Messing und Holz zu arbeiten. Mal was anderes als 3-D-Drucker und Lasercutter.

Just marvellous

We made a very crude version with mercury a few years ago. Not nearly as good or beautiful as this one.
